Running in Paris and Market Day!

Tomorrow I leave for the French Alpes! I am very excited to head into the mountains and kill my legs on the some of the bike climbs, but I will miss Paris! These past few days have been a lot of fun and really good for me in terms of "doing it on my own". Usually I have Gregory around to do translations and give directions; however, I am happy to report I have not gotten lost (to badly!), and have a good idea of how to get around Paris, where everything is, and how to order food (most important of all!)

Sunday morning marked my first run "into" Paris as we live in "American terms" a suberb. So my goal was to run to the Tour Eiffel and explore. However I ended up here:

This does not look like the Tour Eiffel! oops! (it is right by the Louvre, and since I do not want to botch the French spelling of this, I won't try) So I asked another stranger who was looking at a map (only foriegners whip out maps on the Champs Elysees....sounds like chanzelezey for those who don't speak the French) and low and behold the stranger spoke English, so we both figured out where we were and headed off to our respective destinations. Grounded with where I was, I decided to head back as time was running short....

Turns out I missed this bridge..but managed to come back on Monday with the right directions and ended up here:
We all know what this is! Success!! Tomorrow I am going to run to Notre Dame to conclude my Paris adventures! This is what I love about running; a pair of shoes, a bottle of water, and you can explore a city!

and this is me by the Arche de Triomphe before out mothers day lunch on Sunday (I had run by this only one hour earlier!) what a wonderful day of exploring.
Sunday was also market day, and I took a few pictures to give everyone an idea of why the food in France is sooo much better! It is all fresh! This was an outdoor market that operates on the weekends and one day during the week, but there are also indoor markets that operate all week . Any you thought the bakeries were great! check it out:

Fresh fish! (poison)

Chicken (poulet)

Special mushrooms(champignon)...60 Euros per KG!! we did not get any, LOL

Lots and lots of cheese! (fromage!)

Olives (Megan eat your heart out!)

More fish...

Tomatoes! there were such a variety...even green!

this was the meat station, and yes, those are pig tongues...I did not want to sample this, LOL!

Spices! everything you could imagine

Cherries! my favorite! They are sooo bad for my GI, but I couldn't help myself....if I am being good about baguette, I can splurge on cherries!
Allez, more from the Alpes!
